Biographical history
Zina Cameron (Oct 26 1899-Dec 14, 1980) the youngest of four children of John J. Cameron, M.D. (1861-1946), and Eva (McDonald) Cameron (1868-1948), grew up in Antigonish and educated at Mount St Bernard Ladies College before attending the Bowman Technical School of Watchmaking in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She began her working career with Monahan Jewellers; and was the proprietor of Cameron’s Jewelers from 1940 to 1955. An avid sports woman she participated in golf, hockey and fishing. She was a member of St Ninians CWL, the Atlantic Jewelers Association and was honourary member of the Legion Auxiliary. Zina collected material regarding her family as they were prominent in Antigonish. Her oldest brother Lister H. (1898-1952) was a dentist educated at St. F.X. and Toronto’s Royal College of Dental Surgery, and a veteran of both World Wars. Her other brother Owen J. (1896-1942) was a surgeon and general physician who studied at X and at Harvard Medical. Both brothers were prominent players and builders of hockey in Antigonish. Zina’s sister Mary Monica (Mona) was the operator of a pharmacy on Long Island while she lived in New Jersey with husband Robert C. MacLeod, until they returned to Antigonish in 1967.
