Biographical history
Frank E(lam) Garber was born at Newcombville in Lunenburg County in 1877. After learning the fundamentals of photography from a neighbour, Garber opened a studio at Bridgewater in 1904, eventually emerging as one of the leading photographers in Lunenburg County. In 1922, Garber married Hilda Maude Conrad. On September 24, 1952, Garber’s studio was destroyed by fire, resulting in the loss of his photographic prints, negatives, and equipment. Although Garber reestablished his business at his home, he never fully recovered from the setback of the fire. Garber died at Bridgewater in 1964. The DesBrisay Museum in Bridgewater hosted an exhibition devoted to the work of Frank Garber in March, 2013.
