The majority of the early correspondence consists of bills and correspondence relating to parts purchased to build boats by W.A. Hickman. Some of correspondence was received from such companies as Douglas V. Company Limited and Robb Engineering Co. of Amherest, James A. Stairs and The Nova Scotia Steele and Coal Co. of New Glasgow, and D.C. Kirk of Antigonish. Pictou companies represented in the correspondence include the Pictou Foundry and Machine Co., James McLean & Sons and W.C. Wetmore & Co, as well as William Macdonald, Barrister, and Macdonald & Ives, Barristers. The series also contains correspondence to companies in New Brunswick, Toronto, Montreal and the United States. 2001.001.1, Series 5

Series consists of correspondence addressed to W.A Hickman as the “Agent General for New Brunswick and the “New Brunswick Government Commissioner,” from English residents. The majority of the letters requested copies of the 1900 book on New Brunswick, three-hundred and fifty pages in length, for which the inquirer had to submit six stamps to obtain. Many of the correspondents were responding in reference to advertisements in the Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph and the Westminster Gazette, which read “A unique offer made by the government of New Brunswick to the British Settler.” 2001.001.1, Series 2, Subseries 4

Series consists of correspondence to and from W.A. Hickman to the New Brunswick government offices, the Agent General of New Brunswick, the Imperial Institute, Royal Colonial Institute, Office of the Canadian High Commissioner, as well as correspondence with various shipping companies. The series also contains correspondence from Hickman to Frank H. Soden. While the correspondence is related to Immigration, the exact title and position of Frank Soden is unknown. Invitations to various social occasions and announcements of Hickman’s speaking engagements are also contained in the series. 2001.001.1, Series 2, Subseries 2

File consists of four letters. One is to a Miss Tyrrell of the Agent General for New Brunswick asking for a pamphlet with a map of New Brunswick. The second is a form letter to perspective immigrants to New Brunswick, which would have been sent as a cover letter with additional literature. The third is a circular given to applicants for information about New Brunswick discussing travel and fares to New Brunswick. The fourth is a letter signed by Hickman discussing a training farm in New Brunswick run by a Mr. F.H. Soden. 2001.001.1, Series 2, Subseries 1, File 8

These records include lists of immigrants, letters of inquiries from prospective immigrants, as well as correspondence by W.A. The series consists of records received by W.A. Hickman during his term as the NB Government Commissioner. These records include descriptions of lots of land, improved land lots, farms for sale, descriptions of farms, as well as properties for sale, many of thedocuments having been signed and witnessed by Hickman. Information contained in these records include the vicinity of towns, churches and rivers, the condition of the soil and timber, as well as information on cleared land, buildings and springs. 2001.001.1, Series 2, Series 5

The majority of the newspaper clippings are identified as being from British papers and advertise and critique lectures presented by Hickman throughout Great Britain.
