    Administrative history

    The Pictou Friendly Society was founded in the Town of Pictou, Nova Scotia, in 1809 to provide its all-male members with financial help and visits during illness. Funds were available to help defray the expense of burial and to provide a small annual pension to the member's widow and family. Many of the town's leading merchants were founding members.

    Fonds consists of names of sixteen subscribers to the Pictou Friendly Society and twenty-two articles regulating the funds and how they were to be administered.
