    Biographical history

Sylvain Pothier was born at Sainte-Anne-du-Ruisseau, Nova Scotia, the son of Leon (à Pierre) and Rosalie (Thibeaudeau) Pothier. He was adopted by Michel Surette (à Paul-François) when he was a child. He became a shoemaker and carpenter at Sainte-Anne-du-Ruisseau. Pothier also operated the Acadian Factory, a carpentry shop which produced sashes, doors, windows and mouldings. Pothier married Francoise Bourque and the couple had nine children.

    Custodial history

Records were first passed to Pere Clarence d'Entremont by Archie d'Entremont, who lived in Michel Surette's home. The records were then donated to the Societe with the Pere Clarence d'Entremont Collection in 1998.

    Scope and content

Fonds consists of day book of the Acadian Factory. Includes notations of occasional odd jobs and shoe repairs. Also includes an account book for a general store at Lower Eel Brook (1897-1914), which includes accounts for a store on Morris Island (1898-1900), and an account book for a general store at Upper Eel Brook (1898-1908).
