Subseries forms part of Taxation Records series and consists of correspondence, assessment appeals, court records, ratepayers' statements, fire tax assessments, household assessments, fishermen's assessments and related records, and notices. In 1977 the provincial goverment assumed responsibility for assessment, and some records related to this change are also contained in the subseries. Records has been arranged chronologically. The records have been assessed and much of the extraneous correspondence has been removed. The tax correspondence for 1953 has been retained in its entirety as a sample to illustrate the amount and range of correspondence received annually by the tax collector.
