William Robertson and Sons Ltd. was a family hardware store and ships chandlery located on the waterfront in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The former premises is now part of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, which has preserved and interprets the history of the William Robertson and Sons Ship Chandlery.
Custodial history
Records were donated to the Dalhousie University Archives in nine accessions: by Hugh Robertson (148-71) in December 1971, (14-75) in February 1975, (19-75) in March 1975, (21-79) in April 1979, (27-80) in May 1980, and (57-80) in June 1980; by David Robertson (46-74) in December 1974; by Hugh and David Robertson (1-75) and (11-75) in January 1975; and by John Townsend (61-94) in December 1994.
Scope and content
Fonds contains the records of William Robertson and Son Ltd., including ledgers (1871-1939); ledger cards (1941-1968); invoices (1892-1907, 1942-1968); deeds (1908, 1919); inventories (1941-1967); cash books (1939-1968); sheets from stock books (February 1948); credit notes (1953); delivery slips (1953); price books (1886-1945); text from the dedication of a Celtic memorial cross in memory of William Robertson (1955); a copy of the Robertson family tree; correspondence; shares certificates; catalogues; and other records.
