Administrative history

The La Have Outfitting Company were ship chandlers, as well as a fish exporter and sold general merchandise and groceries to the general public. They were also involved in buying and selling schooners. It was founded in the early 1900s, and was primarily run by the Gray family of La Have. Fraser Gray was the owner and acted as the general manager for the majority of the company's existence. As the shipping and fishery industry decreased, they operated mainly as a grocery store into the 1960s.

In 1989, Michael Watson donated cashbooks, ledgers, journals and the Registrar of Shipping, La Have, 1959-1969. Other records were also donated, such as photographs, a List of Canadian Shipping, Miscellaneous Shipping Papers but these records are missing from the collection.
